Vietnam Updates Intellectual Property Administrative Procedures

On June 9, 2026, the Ministry of Science and Technology issued a decision announcing amended, supplemented, replaced and abolished administrative procedures in intellectual property matters within its management remit.

The decision amends and supplements one provincial-level procedure: recognition of institutions providing training in industrial property law.

It also replaces four central-level administrative procedures:

  • (1) Maintaining the validity of invention and utility solution patents;
  • (2) Renewing industrial design patents and trademark registration certificates;
  • (3) Amending information on protection titles and updating information in the National Register of Industrial Property;
  • (4) Registering industrial property assignment agreements.

The decision also abolishes seven procedures: one central-level procedure for recognizing institutions that train industrial property assessment professionals, and six provincial-level procedures relating to the issuance, reissuance and revocation of industrial property assessment organization certificates and assessor cards.

Decision No. 2735/QD-BKHCN takes effect when Resolution No. 66.18/2026/NQ-CP and Circular No. 20/2026/TT-BKHCN enter into force.
